- Once again, Mezipatra will be a part of Prague Pride with its four-day program named Identity in the City.
- This year's hub for all the events will be the Kampus Hybernska project at Hybernská 4.
- Visitors can enjoy an outdoor film screening every night as well as a selection of outstanding short films.
- They can also look forward to interesting discussions with experts, and a pub quiz.
Once again this year, Mezipatra will be a part of Prague Pride. The program, called Identity in the City, will take place from August 8 to 11 as a part of the Hybernska Alive project. It will allow the visitors to see not only many feature films, but also a selection of the best short films from the last two festival editions. They can also take part in thematic discussions with experts, every evening from 19:00. The films then start at 20:30. The popular pub quiz is not forgotten either, centred around issues rocking the queer world.
Admission is free for all events. All discussions will be accompanied by free homemade refreshments including local lemonades by F. H. Prager.
Tuesday / 7 pm: Pub Quiz
For all those visitors who always know the right answer, we have a special version of queer-themed pub, taking place on Tuesday. Teams of two to five people can compete for valuable prizes. They can also win passes for Mezipatra in November. This event is in Czech only.
Tuesday / 8:30 pm: Best of Shorts 2015 - 2016
The most distinctive short films from the last two festival editions will be introduced early in the program. They include the American-Brazilian Tom in America, reminding us of the gay icon Tom of Finland, Icelandic Playing with Balls (Tvíliðaleikur), the subtly feminine Everything in Between (Vad som inte sägs), and The Friend from Tel Aviv, which examines the forms of trans identity. For the more daring viewers, we have ALFA from Cuba, and the non-conventional animated Moms on Fire.
Wednesday / 7 pm: Queer Africa
You can find out more about the LGBTQ+ community's situation in Africa during the Wednesday snack before screening. The discussion with experts will centre not only around the way it is perceived in the West, but also the differences among the individual regions: is the progressive South Africa different from the touristic North of Africa or the conservative Sub-Saharan countries? What is the role of sexuality and gender here, and how do the respective religions view it? This event is in Czech only.
Středa / 8:30 pm: The Wound (Inxeba)
The discussion will be followed by a film about searching for one's identity, which premiered at this year's Sundance. Just like every year, Xolani returns to the mountains to participate in the transformation of boys into men. A boy from a rich city family is to undergo the traditional initiation ritual this year, and it is Xolani who should help him go through the major change and becomes his guardian. But the boy's identity increasingly affects Xolani's life, reminding him why he keeps returning to the mountains every year. It is not only because of the tradition. There's someone who draws him to the village much more.
Thursday / 7 pm: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
The most frequent lesbian and queer stereotypes of the silver screen will be introduced on Thursday. Visitors together with experts can discuss not only the negative clichés and prejudices appearing in Hollywood films in the 80s and 90s, but also the most significant pictures of queer cinema, whose protagonists set off on the dangerous journey of crime. This event is in Czech only.
Thursday / 8:30 pm: My Summer of Love
Mona is trapped in the English countryside, living with her brother – a rehabilitated sinner who finds God after his release from prison. A relationship with a married man first seems as an escape to Mona, but all hope is lost after their breakup. Everything suddenly changes when she meets quirky Tamsin who transforms the dull summer into an exciting adventure. But no summer lasts forever... Screened on Thursday, Pawel Pawlikowski's successful film from 2004 won even BAFTA after its premiere.
Friday / 7 pm: Beyond Categories
The final Friday discussion will focus on the less known sexual orientations. Why do so many people still think that bi- and pansexuality are just a fashionable trend among the young generation? How do these two differ, actually? As a part of the discussion with experts, visitors will also find out about how sexuality was viewed throughout history and different cultures. This event is in Czech only.
Friday / 8:30 pm: Center of My World (Die Mitte der Welt)
After returning from his summer French course, seventeen-year-old Phil finds out that his home village was afflicted by a great storm. But not only the perfectly kept gardens were damaged – there's a strange tension between his mother and her sister, which Phil cannot figure out. In order to escape the strained atmosphere, he is spending the rest of the summer with his best friend, Kat. But the plot thickens when he falls in love with Nicholas, his new classmate. The positive coming-of-age story brimming with summer atmosphere will be screened in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum.
