• The festival's accompanying program includes lectures/discussions, parties and brunches.
  • The discussions will be hosted by Mezipatra's director, Aleš Rumpel, as well as by Ester Janečková.
  • The Saturday party at Neone club will sparkle with Madonna and the 1990s.

The accompanying program of the 15th edition of Mezipatra Queer Film Festival will put the presented films in context many a time, thus enhancing the film experience. Suck Me Dry, the lecture by Aleš Rumpel, the director of Mezipatra, is planned for Friday, November 7th, and will focus on vampires and their unexpected association with contemporary understanding of homosexuality. We won't start appropriately after dusk though, we will welcome you at Langhans Gallery in Vodičkova street at 4p.m. The lecture and discussion will consequently prepare you not only for the short films revolving around vampires which we are presenting this year, but also for the legendary horror by Tony Scott, The Hunger, starring Catherine Deneuve as a thousand-year-old vampire. The film will be screened at the festival's closing ceremony.

Another discussion reflecting this year's film program is scheduled for Sunday, November 9. We will ask together When Will We Say 'I Do'?in Café at 2p.m. Zdeněk Sloboda from the Proud organisation and a representative of Rainbow Pride Bratislava will attempt to provide an answer. The discussion on why registered partnership is (not) a marriage, and on the situation in Slovakia where the equalisation of marriage is newly prohibited by the constitution, will start at 2p.m. However, you can come as early as 12a.m. to enjoy brunch and DJing. You can also find a thematically related film in the program, Love Is Strange, where two elderly gentlemen decide to take the opportunity of marriage equalisation in the State of New York and get married after 39 years.

The other two debates also partly relate to the film program of Mezipatra. On Saturday at 4p.m., the program director of Mezipatra, Lucia Kajánková, will talk with the young film theorist Sandra Hezinová, whose thesis on Czech queer cinema was nominated for the CEFS (Czech Society for Film Studies) award, and with the director Radim Špaček. For those interested, they will offer the Report on Czech Film Situation, focusing on the depiction of queer characters in contemporary Czech films. Afterwards, we'd like to invite you to the Pride Voices event on Tuesday, November 11, at 6:30p.m. You can find inspiration there in stories of Lukáš Houdek or Ester Janečková.

The biggest party of this year's Mezipatra will take place on Saturday at 9:30p.m. The event called Blond Ambition will open Neone club as well as The Chemistry Gallery next door. The visitors can look forward to a multi-genre experience, enjoying the screening of the Madonna: Truth or Dare documentary, light projections and decorations by Lunchmeat, and music by 9 DJs from Prague, Bratislava, and Berlin club Südblock. The participants will receive a free welcome drink, the dresscode being the 1990s and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Furthermore, you can party as well as relax at one of the main festival venues, in Lucerna cinema. We are happy to invite you to the festival's opening party which takes place on Thursday, November 6th, at 10p.m. The party is calledUntil Urxins Do Us Part since the festival residents, Urxins, will play with their guests. DJ Mardoša and DJ Ohyeski will also provide the the epilogue of this year's Mezipatra at the closing party on Wednesday, November 12 at 10p.m.

On Friday, November 7, Monday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 11, a special Chillout zone will be established in Lucerna café, always from 5p.m. to 2a.m. The pianist Michal Šupák (Charlie Straight) will play Lady Gaga as well as The Beatles on Friday from 8p.m. You also have the opportunity to see the exceptional performance of NANOHACH formation, represented by a dancer recognized worldwide, Lea Švejdová. And you have not only one chance, but two, with performances starting on Monday at 5p.m. and 6:30p.m. The dance solo called Citoyen was inspired by the significant painter Toyen.  And you can enjoy a DJ set on Tuesday from 9p.m.
