The Out List

Documentary: Fight for Your Life

What does it mean to be gay for actor Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) or for renowned activist and playwright Larry Kramer? How defining is it to be a lesbian for comedian and presenter Ellen DeGeneres, and for journalist Janet Mock to be a woman who was born a boy? In this unique project from HBO, famous personalities of entertainment, sports, and politics, and those who are not in the media eye, but gained recognition within the LGBTQ community; such as butch queen, Twiggy Pucci Gacos (famous for the iconic queer film, Paris Is Burning, also being presented at Mezipatra), and drag queen Lady Bunny, share their experiences of being publicly “out” in America, and reflect the challenges that LGBTQ activism is still facing. As Dustin Lance Black comments, the Oscar winner for best screenplay of “Milk”: “I would really like for this fight for human rights to be over as soon as possible.”
