Grandma

International Feature Film Competition

Lily Tomlin, as the quirky grandma Elle, confirms her reputation as a superb comedian. Although still coping with the death of her long-time partner (while ending the relationship with her current one),  she realizes that nobody needs her more than her granddaughter, Sage (Julia Garner). What kind of a grandma would she be if she didn't help Sage get the $630 necessary for an abortion? But what kind of a grandma is she when she cuts her credit card to pieces and turns it into a porch decoration in a moment of philosophical epiphany? Elle and Sage, lacking spare cash, set off together on a journey to visit old friends, lovers of both genders, potential fathers, and tattoo parlors (with Laverne Cox herself in the role of the owner) to get the necessary sum. They discuss many personal dramas, cause many others, and deal with Sage's dreaded mother and Elle's daughter, Judy (Marcia Gay Harden). The independent comedy about dramatic twists of life enchanted the Sundance festival.
