• Mezipatra Queer Film Festival will take place in Prague between 7th and 15th November, and then continue in Brno until November 22. The theme of this year's edition is “Wind of Change”.
  • The program features Adam, an American indie comedy by Rhys Ernst, a Swedish-Georgian drama set among dancers, And Then We Danced, and Xavier Dolan's latest film, Matthias et Maxime. The complete festival program will be published on October 16.
  • For the very first time in its history, Mezipatra is also organizing an international industry program.

The twentieth edition of Mezipatra Queer Film Festival will take place in Prague from November 7 to November 14. It will then move to Brno, where it finishes on November 22, followed by the traditional regional echoes. The festival has prepared for its visitors the crème de la crème of queer-themed feature films, documentaries and short films that have collected awards all over the world. Mezipatra newly puts a special emphasis on accompanying events: the new feature is a weekend program for film professionals that will also be open to all those interested in queer film industry. The theme of this year's Mezipatra is “Wind of Change”.

“This anniversary provides us with an opportunity to emphasize the festival's social and political dimensions. Mezipatra has always been active in terms of what's happening in the society, and its program has addressed current problems of the queer communities,” says Sandra Hezinová, the festival's program director. “Through this year's theme, we accentuate the mutual queer solidarity and emphasize the necessity to be an active force that will not be discouraged by obstacles and aversion in its fight for equality and recognition in the whole society.”

The opening film of the festival will be Adam, an independent American comedy by the director and screenwriter Rhys Ernst, one of the producers of the critically acclaimed Transparent TV show. The feature debut of this prominent trans filmmaker of today is based on Ariel Schrag's novel about an eponymous protagonist who denies his cis identity in order to win a girl's heart. Showing an authentic queer community with ease and empathy, the film premiered at Sundance. Rhys Ernst will come to Mezipatra to introduce it in person.

Another major film of the festival will be the Swedish-Georgian-French co-production drama And Then We Danced by director Levan Akin that will take the audiences to today's Georgia. In his third film, the director with Georgian roots illustrates both his homeland's heteronormative environment, and the binding rules of the national dance as young Merab tries to find his place there. He will learn that life is about more than just fulfilling the traditional male role only thanks to Irakli, a new arrival in the dance troupe. This dynamic drama premiered at this year's Cannes in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs section. Since then, the film has won the Best Film award at Odessa IFF and the Best Director award at IFF Sarajevo. It was also Sweden's candidate for an Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.

A limited number of festival passes can be purchased in Prague and Brno in the box offices of Světozor, Lucerna and Pilotů cinemas, and online until October 15, for the price of CZK 590. In Brno, the sale of the festival passes in Scala and Art cinemas starts already on October 23. Thanks to the pass, visitors have the option to see seven films for the price of five. The passes are valid for all festival cinemas and are transferable.
