Prague, November 16, 2017 – The 18th edition of Mezipatra Queer Film Festival, themed around the Be Your Own Champion motto, had its closing ceremony in Brno. Mezipatra took place in Prague from November 2 to 10, the festival then moved to Brno and will continue there until November 17. The screenings of over sixty feature and short films have been visited by around 11.800 people.

The program featured also accompanying events, for example a discussion about women in music, and the festival's largest party, PG-18, with DJ Ena Lind from Berlin. The festival in Brno has also offered many interesting events – apart from films, exhibitions and workshops also the Open Space: Queer Gipsy discussion about the Romani LGBTQ+ minority.

Audience Award and two other prizes

The film most popular with the visitors was awarded during the closing gala in Brno. This year, the award went to British God's Own Country about an intimate romance between a farmer and a Romanian immigrant in the inhospitable Yorkshire. Critics label Francis Lee's film as one of this year's cinematic highlights, it was successful already at its world premiere at the Sundance festival. The film will tour Czech cinemas from January next year.

Mezipatra has awarded three prizes altogether. During the closing gala in Prague on November 9th, the main jury awarded the prize for the best live-action film. It was won by Eliza Hittman's Beach Rats. The film follows young Frankie as he drowns his boredom and inner insecurities in alcohol, drugs, and random hook-ups with older men. It will also be available in Czech cinemas – from March next year.

The winner of the short films competition became the Serbian Transition (Tranzicija) about a person who decides to live in harmony with their inner identity before their departure to the USA.
