The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Retrospective

There is no other film in the history of cinema fulfilling the definition of “cult” better than this queer rock musical.  Newly engaged Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) arrive at the castle of Dr. Frank N. Further (Tim Curry), the “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania,” just as he is planning a special party night, following which the lives of these two “sweet kids” will never be the same again. Both an homage to and a parody of classic horror and science-fiction films, its songs and dance choreographies are legendary, and the story is the queerest ever told, about the perfect blond muscleman Frank has built for himself, aliens, bikers, crazy scientists and a sexuality that is best freed on the stage in a corset with garters and heels. This film, so ahead of its time that it originally flopped - only to be revived at midnight screenings, with audiences wildly “doing the time-warp” until today -now returns to the big screen in a restored version for its 40th anniversary.
