Always Amber

International Feature Film Competition

Amber is seventeen and non-binary. Together with their best friend Sebastian, they live a carefree life full of dreams and parties, without thinking about what comes tomorrow. They think the liberal and modern world is well-disposed towards them, and that there's nothing to disrupt their utopia. But their idyllic world clashes with reality, love, reservations and misunderstandings. Amber starts doubting themselves and losing control, only to be completely alone in the critical moment. This time-lapse documentary maps three years in the life of unique Amber who is looking for their voice and true identity in the boundaries of modern society. The portrait was created by two young directors, Lia Heintala and Hannah Reinikainen, whose primary experience lies in short LGBT films about the lives of young queer people. They focus not only on gender issues but also on friendship, love, identity and the lifestyle of the new generation.
