Queens of Joy / Korolevy radosti

Documentary Section

The Queens of Joy longitudinal documentary follows the story of three Ukrainian drag queens who choose to stay in their homeland despite Russia’s military invasion. Every day has become a harsh test of courage for Marlen, Aura, and Diva Monroe. Yet instead of fleeing, they choose resistance – be it on the front line, in the queer community, or deep within themselves. The drag persona of Marlen helps Oleksander cope with trauma and family responsibilities. Aura fights on the front lines by day – and spreads joy on stage by night. The famous host and influencer Monroe navigates the challenging process of self-acceptance while exploring her trans identity. All three share courage, love for their home, and a determination to defend LGBTQ+ rights. Their film story culminates in a charity drag show supporting the Ukrainian army – a celebration of the queer community and a powerful act of resilience that brings joy and hope to dark times.
