Seventeen-year-old Johanna is experiencing her first love. But it’s a platonic one – felt for her French teacher. Her complicated feelings range from excitement and exhilaration to confusion and frustration, so she pours them out in a vivid confession to her diary. When it falls into the hands of her mother and grandmother, however, trouble is inevitable – the intimate story no longer belongs to Johanna alone, and the three women are suddenly confronted with social norms, their own desires, and the complexities of family relationships. The final part of Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugerud’s relationship trilogy – based on candid dialogues about the characters’ intimate lives – was presented at the Berlinale, where it won the Golden Bear for Best Film.
