On the Road / En el camino
International Feature Film CompetitionVeneno is trying to flee from his past and the demons who’ve made themselves at home in his head. His physical escape is aided by truck drivers he hooks up with in dingy roadside diners. When he meets the tough and standoffish driver Muñeco, it doesn’t exactly look like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. But on their journey across Mexico, they begin to grow closer. While Muñeco’s heart is slowly melting, Veneno’s demons are getting closer. Can he escape the dark thoughts and the looming danger in the hypermasculine world scented by gasoline? A thrilling, harsh yet sensitive roadmovie which reveals its cards gradually – together with disentangling the knot of memories. The film was screened at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Queer Lion award for best LGBTQ film.
