Mario is a young dancer from a sleepy town in South Tyrol. The picturesque area seems to be the perfect place to live, but only until Mario has to deal with the traumatic loss of his boyfriend, who died in an attack on a gay club. In the hardest moments, all the established communities and his safety net abandon him: his family, friends, and neighbours. The same painful question resonates everywhere: Why was it he who survived? Mario becomes an involuntary and forlorn outcast, belonging nowhere and with nobody. He turns to the last thing he has left: to faith in all its forms. Evi Romen’s directorial debut is a mature, thematically rich film, which courageously addresses the burning social issues of today. The director’s complex, sober approach to the tragic theme received praise at the Bolzano film festival in Italy, where the film won the Best Feature Film award.
