Show Me Love / Fucking Åmål

Retrospective

Åmål is a sleepy Swedish town where new trends get old before they even manage to get there. It’s the home of sixteen-year-old Agnes, who is in love with her extroverted and fickle classmate, Elin. Elin doesn’t have the best reputation among her classmates, but she’s the archetype of a typical teenager: she misbehaves, gets upset and disagrees, but she’s confident, has to try everything and dives into everything head first. And she subconsciously wants to escape her family and her constant arguments there. In contrast, the shy Agnes keeps her feelings hidden and is unable to express her love for Elin. But circumstances push the girls to get closer at a birthday party, and Elin starts feeling something she hasn’t experienced before…. This iconic masterpiece among coming-of-age films by the Swedish director Lukas Moodysson is celebrating 20 years this year!
