Mezipatra Queer Film Festival presents a program called Identity in the City during the Prague Pride. From Tuesday to Friday (August 8 – 10, 2019), anyone can attend the evening screening and participate in discussions on queer topics. The venue will be Kasárna Karlín and of course there is a café and a bar.

TUESDAY Aug. 6, 2019

7:00 p.m. – Discussion: BFFs
Friendship is one of the most important social bonds in our lives and even scientific studies have shown that it can prolong our lives. Has friendship transformed in the age of social media and other new technologies? What kind of role does it play in the queer community? And aren’t you a bit of a fag hag? You’ll find out during a discussion with our experts before the screening. Come and bring all your friends! Discussion will be in Czech only.

9:00 p.m. – Screening: Brief story from the green planet
(Argentina / Germany / Brazil / Spain, 75 min)
Tania, Pedro and Daniela enjoy partying all night long in Buenos Aires like no one else. But when Tania’s grandmother passes away, they have to bid adieu to their party lives. They set off on a trip to the countryside to fulfil grandma‘s last wish and help her loyal friend get home. His home, however, is located on another planet. This uncanny road movie about the importance of friendship and solidarity won the prestigious Teddy Award at Berlinale. Film will be screened in Spanish with English and Czech subtitles.


WEDNESDAY Aug. 7, 2019

7:00 p.m. – Discussion: School is the Foundation of Life
School should not only teach reading, writing and arithmetic, but also tolerance and other important social skills. Whether current teaching methods fulfill this need will be the topic of discussion with education experts. We’ll also talk about the evolution of sex education in the Czech Republic and other countries in a historical context. The most important publications on the subject and tools to prevent bullying will also be discussed. Discussion will be in Czech only.

9:00 p.m. – Screening: Jonas
(France, 85 min)
Jonas’s life is all about fights, drunken nights and one-night stands. When his partner breaks up with him, it triggers a suppressed trauma from his teenage years. We are sent back to 1997, when Jonas‘s first love changed his life forever. The rising French star Félix Maritaud (120 BPM, Sauvage) shines brightly in this dynamic film about coming of age and the courage to face painful memories. Film will be screened in French with English and Czech subtitles.


THURSDAY Aug. 8, 2019

7:00 p.m. – Discussion: Queer Art
Artists provide us with a different view of the world, and their role in contemporary culture is irreplaceable. But many of them struggle to survive and never get the same recognition as, for example, Andy Warhol did. What obstacles must they overcome in their work? Do queer artists face different problems? All this and much more will be covered in a discussion with contemporary artists before the movie. Discussion will be in Czech only.

9:00 p.m. – Screening: High Art
(Canada / USA, 101 min)
Syd has just been promoted to Assistant Editor at a New York magazine, but she wants to climb all the way to the top. As a means to do so, she seduces her neighbour, a once very promising photographer who is now just doing drugs with her withering girlfriend, But what happens if you add love to the mix of sex, drugs and art? Every year during Pride, you have the opportunity to see the classics of queer cinema. The lesbian cult movie High Art by Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids are All Right) tells the story of a fleeting fame and career obsession. Film will be screened in English with no subtitles.


FRIDAY Aug. 9, 2019

7:00 p.m. – Pub Quiz
Another edition of our beloved Queer Pub Quiz is here! If you have heard of Marsha P. Johnson and can name all of Rupaul's singles in alphabetical order, then this is the perfect event for you. The whole evening is hosted by famous Czech drag star Just Karen, whom you may also know from the community center Patra. You can participate in the quiz in teams from two to five people and win many wonderful prizes. So start your engines and may the best team win! Pub Quiz will be in English.

9:00 p.m. – Screening: Best of Shorts 2018
(Sweden; Macedonia; Canada; Brazil; Australia, 82 min)
Which do you enjoy more: shorts or feature films? Come and see the best from QFF Mezipatra’s short film competition. Emil and Adam kick off this top five in the innocent Sleepover. Alexe, Carl, Lesia and Todd test the strength of their friendships in Pre-Drink and Wild Dances. Aneta is fighting to be free in Would You Look at Her, and Jonathas is trying to do the same in the captivatingly colourful film The Orphan. The stars of these short films will make you feel the greatness of their stories. Films will be screened with English and Czech subtitles.
