Documentary - Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

California, 2008: the 15-year-old Larry King was murdered in a classroom by his classmate. The incident occurred during a lecture, a day after Larry declared his love to Brandon publicly, afterwards exposing Brandon to mockery by his friends. The film is concerned not only with the subsequent court case-- it is most important because of the paramount concern with removing bias. So, the opportunity to present one's point of view is given both to the prosecutors and those demanding justice for Larry's murderer, as well as Brandon's defense counselors claiming the intricacy of Brandon's situation among his peers. A person's right to freedom of expression and privacy stands out as the theme. The alarming case of Brandon McInerney shows the ability to relativize unambiguous facts and erase or re-label who is the victim and who is the offender. An HBO production about a societal, ethical, system and most of all: human failure.
