Boys Don't Cry

Retrospective - Based on True Stories

Once upon a time in the early 1990s there was a young man named Brandon Teena. He had clashes with the law since puberty, but all seemed to be taking a turn for the better once he came to start a new life in the one-horse town Falls City in Nebraska. Here he found friends among ex-cons, blended in the community as the handsome stranger and most importantly, charmed the local beau Lana to fall in love with him. The true story had a chance of a fairytale ending only till the guarded secret was revealed - that the pleasant boy Brandon has Teena Brandon written as given name on his driving license alongside the mark for sex - F for female. A gripping drama about courage to be who you are whatever the circumstances and to fight for your truth, tied with the doomed love story, was prepared by the director Kimberly Peirce after years of researching the actual events as well as looking for the ideal cast for the role of Brandon - found in the actress Hilary Swank, who was for this portrayal awarded the Oscar.
