Documentary - Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

How do you deal with complete amnesia and loss of control after a senseless bashing by a group of teenagers? When you have no idea who you are, and all that is left are shards of events and people in photographs, your drawings, and a diary of the alcoholic that you supposedly used to be… Mark tells his story in which he built a new miniature world armed with only his creativity and imagination. It's his own mythology, in which every person in Mark's life is matched an alter ego. A narrative in a WWII set in his backyard, carefully conserved in photographs, often feels more real to Mark than live of the “originals” in the neighborhood. Eventually, the gallery scene discovers Mark's personal therapy project - the fantasy world of Marwencol that blurs the lines between obsession and art. But the virtual bubble constituting Mark's sense of security is about to burst any day now… Marwencol is an award-winning documentary by Jeff Malmberg, offering viewers the experience that is longed for by non-fiction audiences but rarely satisfied in such an exquisite fashion.
